Friends and fellow travelers on the road of high adventure!
After an incredibly successful first year that saw six mighty issues storm the shelves of comic book stores everywhere, we now venture boldly into year two of The Savage Sword of Conan!
As we cross into the uncharted territories of 2025, Heroic Signatures and Titan Comics have prepared a feast worthy of King Conan himself! The seventh issue of Savage Sword arrives as a magnificent retro blast from the past, featuring none other than the legendary Roy Thomas returning to the helm!
That’s right – the scribe who first brought Conan to Marvel Comics in 1970 returns to the pages of Savage Sword, paired with the masterful Rob De La Torre and his gloriously retro art style.
This dynamic duo promises to deliver a tale worthy of the annals of Nemedian chronicles, capturing the raw energy and primal power that made Savage Sword an icon of the fantasy genre.
THE JOURNEY OF SAVAGE SWORD OF CONAN SO FAR
For those who haven’t been following the blood-soaked trail, let’s recount the glorious saga that has unfolded across the first six issues of this reborn classic.
Issue #1 saw John Arcudi and Mark von Fafner deliver “Conan and the Dragon Horde,” a tale of deception, prehistoric beasts, and an engineer named Ineah whose wit matched her beauty. This double-length feature was complemented by Patrick Zircher’s Solomon Kane backup story, introducing readers to Howard’s grim Puritan hero.
In Issue #2, Jim Zub and Richard Pace forced our favorite barbarian to confront a nightmare scenario – his strength diminished, his legs useless, fighting for survival with nothing but determination and cunning. Meanwhile, Solomon Kane’s hunt continued in the Welsh countryside, facing supernatural threats that would test his steely resolve.
Issue #3 saw Frank Tieri and Cary Nord transform the Cimmerian into something primal and fierce – a wolf-man stalking the snow-covered tundra! Nord’s ink-washed paintings captured Conan’s struggle against this unwanted curse as he sought to reclaim his humanity. Patrick Zircher concluded his Solomon Kane trilogy with a confrontation against the monstrous Gawr.
Issue #4 expanded beyond Conan to celebrate Robert E. Howard’s wider universe with six tales of six different heroes – Conan, Solomon Kane, Kirowan and Conrad, Dark Agnes, and El Borak – all connected by the sinister eye of the Black Stone sigil. This anthology showcased the breadth of Howard’s imagination while setting the stage for future adventures.
The masterful Jason Aaron stepped in for Issues #5 and #6, delivering an epic King Conan saga spanning over 100 pages across two issues! The aging but still mighty barbarian king found himself caught between witches and witch-hunters, ultimately forced to embrace the one thing he truly despises – magic! Geof Isherwood’s dynamic artwork perfectly captured the older Conan’s weathered but undiminished power.
THE RETURN OF A LEGEND
Now, as we stand at the threshold of Issue #7, we witness the triumphant return of the man who defined Conan’s visual legacy – Roy Thomas!
For the uninitiated, Thomas is no simple scribe. He is the visionary who first adapted Robert E. Howard’s literary barbarian into comic form, establishing the visual language and storytelling approach that would influence every Conan comic that followed. His run on the original Savage Sword of Conan set the standard by which all sword and sorcery comics are measured.
Thomas returns with “Mark of the Beast,” a tale that draws inspiration from unlikely sources, including Rudyard Kipling. He transforms elements from Kipling’s colonial India into the mysterious Vendhya of the Hyborian Age, where ancient gods and primal forces hold sway in steaming jungles and forgotten temples.
In this thrilling adventure, Conan encounters a temple dedicated to a fearsome tiger god and meets the enigmatic Darhini, a “woman of the wild” whose complex motivations drive the story’s intricate plot. Thomas has crafted a character who transcends the typical sword and sorcery archetypes, creating a worthy foil for our Cimmerian hero. Rob De La Torre’s artwork brings this confrontation to life with moody atmosphere and deep shadows that evoke the classic feel of the original Savage Sword while adding his own contemporary flourishes.

Lo Terry
In his effort to help Heroic Signatures tell legendary stories, Lo Terry does a lot. Sometimes, that means spearheading an innovative, AI-driven tavern adventure. In others it means writing words in the voice of a mischievous merchant for people to chuckle at. It's a fun time.
